Spring Cleaning
Hello! Are you feeling like Spring has sprung?
Perhaps some of you are thinking ‘Spring?! It’s still 40 degrees during the day and I know another snowstorm is coming’… A few of you might have sneezed in response to the question as the layer of yellow continues to overtake the natural color of your car. For those of you in the middle, can I come over?
First, we would like to give a very warm welcome to those of you who have joined the White River Family in 2023. We are thrilled to have you and can’t wait to continue getting to know your family as we walk your path together!
Next, we are making a little switch on this month’s content. Since we’re squarely in spring, we’ve decided to make March Spring Cleaning Month. Besides, we know you’re busy getting tax docs together. So, we’re going to do some of the work for you this month.
Attached is a summary of your accounts, primary and contingent beneficiaries if you have retirement or transfer on death (TOD) instructions as well as any ACH or money-links we have on file for you. It’s important that information is kept current. If you see something that doesn’t look right or is missing, let us know and we will send the forms out to you for updates. Additionally, April is Estate Planning month so this is a great lead-in to ensure your planning is being carried out the way you want it.
Also take a look at your 401(k)’s and other retirement plans. Unfortunately even if we have access to your 401(k)’s or other retirement plans, your beneficiary information doesn’t show through to us. Please take the time to ensure your beneficiaries are listed correctly! And note that if you have kiddo’s listed directly, they cannot inherit funds until they are 18. If you have them listed on accounts with us, I’ve left you a note on getting some updates done!
Same with your insurance policies. If there’s an ex-anyone listed, best get the forms to make the update, otherwise the people you actually want to get those funds likely won’t see the money. Same issue if the kids are listed and they are under 18.
